The signs of fall are here. The first floater was loaded last week out of the Buxton plant and Jamie and I hope we have all the bugs out. That is good news as we have a lot of acres to get over with our machines. We definitely have a lot of crop still out in the country as we have a break in the action with 1.5 inches of rain. The row crops are good so far with 15-25 bag edibles, 20-30 ton beets and 30-40 bushel soybeans. Hopefully in a week or two we can start getting into the corn that is drying down. As you would expect with the uneven corn emergence this spring, we still have uneven fields as our cobs are denting and drying down. I am starting to see a majority of the corn getting to black layer and putting on test weight. That is a good thing! A good moisture number at black layer is 35% moisture. The news is saying "FROST" on Oct. 16th. This would not effect too many acres of corn as most is made.
